Capital Humane Society gives recovery update on puppy found in pumpkin patch

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Capital Humane Society provided a recovery update Wednesday on a puppy that was abandoned in a pumpkin patch near Nebraska City.
In the post on Facebook, officials said Zephyr — a 9-month-old puppy — has gained 4 pounds since arriving at the shelter last Friday.
A person had found the puppy starving and extremely weak in the pumpkin patch last week.
“She is showing more excitement and giving tail wags but she still gets tired very quickly,” the shelter said.
Zephyr is unable to stand up without assistance, but the puppy is “growing a little stronger each day.”
She has since received more blood work, and staff are now running additional diagnostics to rule out any “underlying issues” that may have contributed to the puppy’s condition.
The Capital Humane Society said it will continue to provide updates on Zephyr as she continues to recover.
