Car fire melts siding on Lincoln home, damage estimated around $18,000

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to a car fire on Sunday that melted the siding on a nearby home.

On-duty Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said crews were called to the area near 52nd and South streets around 6 p.m.

When they arrived, he said there were flames coming from the car.

The owner had parked it close to her home, and it had started to melt the side panels of the house.

Gegg said there were no injuries in the fire.

During this time of extreme heat, he warns people to be cautious.

“Just make sure that any sort of mechanical equipment, especially your AC units, are working properly,” Gegg said. “If there’s any doubt about them working probably, it would definitely be good to get ahold of a HVAC technician to take care of any concerns that you have.”

He said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The damage to both the car and the house is estimated at around $17,500, and Gegg said the car was a total loss.
