LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A home in Hastings was left uninhabitable Monday after a fire.

The fire started about 11:40 a.m. at a home in the southwest part of the city, according to Hastings Fire & Rescue.

People were moving into the house and put cardboard boxes on the stove, the fire department said.

They left the home, and when they got back, they heard the smoke alarm.

HFR said a man tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the blaze was big enough for firefighters to get involved.

Crews got the fire out 13 minutes after arriving, the department said.

No one was injured.

The building is salvageable, but HFR said no one can live there in its current state.
