Career fair for formerly incarcerated individuals returns to Lincoln nonprofit
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Center for People in Lincoln is hosting a workshop this week for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Opening Doors Program Director Michaela Weverka said attendees will start the workshop off by creating resumes.
“We’re not just talking about, you know, nine-to-five jobs,” she said. “We’re talking about things you worked on while you were incarcerated.”
The nonprofit will host a women’s workshop on Tuesday, a men’s workshop on Wednesday and a hiring event on Thursday.
Weverka said the workshop will have mock interviews and preparation classes on how to address their background with employers.
“We’re going to have 12 background-friendly employers come here, and they’re ready to hire,” Weverka said.
The Center For People will also be offering continued career-based courses every three weeks for Lincoln residents.
“We understand that there’s sometimes a stigma that incarceration is the end of the road, but here at The Center For People, we see it as new beginnings,” she said.
