‘Carry on the tradition’: Downtown Seward staple celebrates 46 years of business

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A local clothing store in downtown Seward is celebrating a major milestone this week.

The Second Closet, located right off of Seward’s main street, is highlighting 46 years of service in the town.

“It means a lot to me to carry on the tradition,”owner Tammy Mackie said.

Mackie was a freshman at Concordia University when she first started shopping at the Second Closet.

She started working at the store in 1999 and ended up buying it from the previous owner in 2002.

Since then, the store has built up a big customer base, and Mackie says their wide and varied selection is part of their success.

While many businesses have come and gone over the years, Mackie is glad the Second Closet has been an important part of the community.

She says without the people of Seward, the Second Closet wouldn’t be where it’s at today.

“They’ve supported us through the pandemic, they’ve supported us through all of the lovely road construction, which hasn’t been easy,” Mackie said.

Mackie is planning to retire in the next few years and is looking to find someone who will carry on the store’s legacy.

“Just the fact that people continue to make an effort and come and see us, even when times are tough, event when the roads are slick in the winter, even when it’s boiling hot outside, they still come and shop,” Mackie said.
