LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former David City High School coach pleaded not guilty Thursday to sending sexually charged text messages to a student.

Jeremy Andel, 37, waived his preliminary hearing in Butler County Court, and the judge forwarded his case to district court.

Andel is charged with third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee and child enticement.

Court documents allege that he sent inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old girl.

From September 2023 to May 2024, he had sent her over 1,700 texts, an arrest affidavit says.

Andel was a girls wrestling coach, but authorities said the victim was not on the team.

On April 1, Andel is scheduled to be arraigned in Butler County District Court.
