Catholic Social Services hosts 3rd annual Walk to End Hunger at Pius

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Pius X High School welcomed hundreds of people ready to walk a combined total of 1,000 laps around their facility.
The Walk to End Hunger receives donations through community members bringing in canned goods and walking laps.
Sponsors of the event are contributing by providing a $25 donation for every four laps walked.
Their goal was to reach 25,000 pounds in food and money combined, which would equal 1,000 laps walked.
The organization had already raised 19,000 pounds in food and donations before the walk even officially started.
Mike Hosek, the organizer of the event, has seen huge impacts from this event over the years.
“Our event today will help raise around three months worth of food for the food bank to give out,” Hosek said. “It’s been such a big success. They haven’t had to purchase as much food with the money they receive, and can put that towards other needs.”
The event is open to the public and completely free to attend.
Just come ready to walk some laps and bring perishable goods to donate.
“Last year we walked 620 laps total,” Hosek said. “The first year, we did really good and hit around 800. Our goal for this year is 1,000 laps and the average person will walk anywhere from four to six laps.”
The Walk to End Hunger also featured a D.J., free concessions and a face painting station.
The food bank will be looking for volunteers to help sort the food raised. Check out their website to learn more about how you can contribute.
