LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- The CDC published new allergy guidelines for the COVID-19 vaccine over the weekend.

The recommendations suggest that people who have ever had a severe allergic reaction, known as anaphylaxis, to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine should not get it and should consult their doctor about getting the vaccine.

Symptoms can include shortness of breath, throat closing up, nausea, and dizziness.

Because of the possible reactions, the CDC recommends that providers monitor all people for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine.

The CDC says people with a history of severe allergic reactions not related to vaccines or injectable medications, like allergies to food, venom, pets, environmental, or latex, can still get vaccinated.
