Authorities have arrested a school administrator on suspicion of child abuse and third-degree sexual assault.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation led to the arrest of 56-year-old Timothy Dewaard, of Utica. Dewaard was arrested Sunday night at the school after officials received a tip regarding the alleged abuse.

In an exclusive interview with Channel 8, Seward County Sheriff Michael Vance touched on the hard reality that comes with these situations and living in a small town.

“It’s very hard because I know everybody involved. I live in the same town this happened in, I know the suspect, and I know the victim and the victims family,” Sheriff Vance said.

Dewaard is the Superintendent of Centennial Public Schools. Since the arrest,  Sheriff Michael Vance, told Channel 8 that Dewaard has been placed on paid leave while the investigation continues.

Authorities say the charges involve a high school-aged boy. They also believe the abuse went on for over a year.

Dewaard was released Tuesday after his wife paid five percent of his $50,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing as the Seward and York County Sheriff’s Offices believe there could be more victims.

If you or someone you know has ever been a victim of abuse, you’re encouraged to call the Seward County Sheriff’s Office at 402-643-2359.
