CenterPointe receives 200 new books to give to patients
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – At the new CenterPointe location near 11th and South streets, kids have the opportunity to get a free book with their wellness visit.
CenterPointe’s primary care provider, Dr. Teresa “Buffy” Lewis-Hunt, created this literary program. Every child she treats leaves with a book.
She hopes that this will also apply to adult patients who struggle to read.
She has a small library, but it got bigger after 8-year-old Brecken Gates donated 200 new books on Friday.
“We believe that no child should be left behind,” Lewis-Hunt said. “It doesn’t matter how fast you read; it’s learning how to read. This is important, so we get books for all ages.”
Brecken, who owns a tie-dying business called The BRK Company, was recently diagnosed with dyslexia.
Reading is a challenge for him, but he understands how important it is.
“Reading is very important because if you don’t know how to read, then you can’t do a lot of things,” he said.
CenterPointe’s primary care services are for all ages, regardless of whether you’re in other programs.
It offers a sliding scale fee, with free or low-cost options for those who are eligible.
