CenterPointe reflects on 50 years of service in Lincoln, looks ahead to future

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – CenterPointe offered services to six people in its first year.  In 2023, 50 years later, the nonprofit helped around 4,500 people.

CenterPointe opened its doors in 1973 to address an emerging drug addiction crisis.

The nonprofit’s CEO, Topher Hansen, said CenterPointe still responds to the community’s needs.

“That tradition of responding to the community and sort of listening to what the needs are has been a strong point of what CenterPointe has been about all along,” Hansen said.

CenterPointe now offers over 40 services, including substance abuse, mental health treatment and housing.

The nonprofit also has expanded to work with partners in the community such as the Lincoln Police Department to co-respond to crises.

“Partnering with the right people and doing it in a way that builds a synergistic effect is part of what we think is the strength of a community,” Hansen said.
