Chadron teen shot while hunting for doves in northwestern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A teen was shot Saturday during a hunting incident in rural northwestern Nebraska, state officials say.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission said it happened at around 6:45 p.m. on private property southwest of Chadron.
A 16-year-old boy from Chadron was “unintentionally shot” at close range by someone in his hunting party, according to an initial review of the incident.
The group had been hunting doves in the area.
The teen was taken to Chadron Community Hospital with birdshot wounds to his face, torso, arm and hand. He has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Game and Parks noted that this is the second hunting incident reported in 2025.
An investigation is ongoing.
