Chancellor Green holds State of the University Address in Lincoln

Chancellor Ronnie Green spoke at the State of the University Address at the Lied Center Tuesday.

One of the main topics? A new budget model.

“We have been very fortunate to have prevent significant elimination of any core academic programs,” said Chancellor Ronnie Green. “The university has forwarded a modest budget increase request that will allow us to address faculty and staff increases; and it’s encouraging to see the support of Governor Ricketts.”

Green outline some goals he wants to accomplish by 2025. They include increasing student enrollment to 29,000 students, expanding public and private internships outside the university, and funding more research.

Channel 8 spoke to some students who agree with his ideas.

“It is heartening to see the chancellor and the university reiterate how outward this university’s impact is, and how pivotal and inaugural the University of Nebraska is and will continue to be to the entire state of Nebraska, United States and our friends around the globe,” said Hunter Traynor, a student.

The State of the University Address is traditionally at the start of the fall semester but, it was shifted to align with the start of the University’s 150th anniversary.
