Charge upgraded to second-degree murder in Kearney shooting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Kearney woman is now charged with murder in the slaying of her husband.

On Monday, prosecutors upgraded the charge against 57-year-old Karen Geisler from first-degree assault to second-degree murder.

The change came after her husband, 62-year-old Jimmy Geisler, died on Friday.

Police said she shot him Oct. 20 at their home in southwest Kearney.

The arrest affidavit was sealed, but the judge has ordered it to be released.

Geisler’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14.
