Charlie’s House
A benefit will be held to finish a Lincoln home for young adults with disibilities.
A benefit show home will be open for residents of Lincoln to come and see tonight for a $5 fee.
The open house is meant to raise money to finish building the actual house young adults with disabilities will live in.
The house is called Charlie's House.
22-year old Charlie Wilson has Cerebal Palsy, a disorder in the brain that affects muscle coordination and movement.
Even though Charlie needs help doing everyday tasks, he is determined to live on his own.
“Charlie's House” will give him that opportunity.
The future home will serve as a living facility for three disabled adults, which will give them the chance to live indepently.
Charlie told Channel 8 that he's looking forward to having roomates that like to have fun and like the same things he does.
Charlie's mother, Patty Wilson started raising money for the Charlie's House by selling pies, so disabled young adults like her son can live as close to normally as possible.
The benefit home was built by Barber Homes, the same company that is working on Charlie's house.
It's meant to give only a preview of what the Charlie's home will look like, which will eventually consist of 3 bedrooms and 2 wheel chair accessible bathrooms.
The most unique feature in the home is an elevator.
Charlie and his roommates will still have caretakers come to the house but will be independent at the same time.
We all have goals and dreams and these young adults are no different than us. They're out there and reaching for those goals, we are just here to help them get that.
Charlie's home won't be done until January or February, but he says what he's looking forward to the most in his new home is having his friends over to watch a husker's football game on tv.
The benefit is this Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at 5120 South 90th Street. Admission is $5.
