LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a scam involving an intricate trading website scheme.

On Monday, police met with a 45-year-old Lincoln man who said he was scammed.

He said he struck up an online conversation in May and befriended an unknown woman.

Eventually, she convinced him to invest in an online trading website, according to LPD.

Over the next several weeks, the victim said he invested $40,500 into the website.

The victim said the website showed significant gains, more than doubling his money.

When he attempted to withdraw the money, he discovered the website was fake.
