Woman, children held hostage in western Nebraska standoff
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man is accused of barricading himself inside a Nebraska home for more than 24 hours after he refused to pull over for a traffic violation.
On Tuesday, authorities say the 37-year-old shot at a Scotts Bluff County sheriff’s deputy who chased after him in Gering.
The man crashed into a garage, then went in the home.
That began a standoff in which a woman and two girls were taken hostage.
Officers with the Gering and Alliance police departments were also called in, along with the FBI and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Officials say they were shot at with multiple weapons during the standoff, leaving law enforcement pinned down at times.
Authorities were able to move in and arrest the suspect without further incident on Wednesday.
