Chill in the air for New Year’s Eve celebrations
Rain complicated any attempt at snow accumulations yesterday. A lot of melting happened so only a hint at some white was observed as we woke up on grassy surfaces and cars.
Below are some of the rain reports across southeast Nebraska through early Tuesday morning.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, more snow reports were coming in. Northern Nebraska so far with higher totals, including a 4″ report from Stuart, Nebraska. Additional reports could be available throughout the day.
Northwest winds picked up overnight and early Tuesday morning, producing wind chills in the teens and lower 20s. Gusty winds around 25-30 mph will carry us through much of the morning and afternoon.
Heading into the eve of New Year’s Eve, temperatures will remain fairly cold with wind chills in the 20s and eventually teens. Not as much clearing in the clouds is expected anymore.
Closer to midnight, there may be a few passing flurries late in far eastern Nebraska from more passing clouds. Most of us will see partly cloudy to mostly clear conditions with those cooler temperatures around the middle 20s to ring in the new year!
We’re continue to watch a couple more rounds of snow toward the end of this week. Some light snow is possible especially north of I-80 through northeast Nebraska into Thursday morning.
Snow accumulation may more so be a factor sometime Saturday night through Monday morning, but there’s been a lot of uncertainty in the details. A surge of much colder air into early next week looks likely as well.
