Chill in the air with cooler temperatures Tuesday
Count on a chill in the air throughout Tuesday with a colder airmass in place. It’ll feel like sweater weather today with a breeze out of the northeast at 10-20 mph.
High temperatures will only make it to the middle and upper 50s across southeast Nebraska this Tuesday, our coolest day of the week.
That means we’re all running about 10 degrees BELOW average for this time of the year.
But tonight will be our coldest night of the season so far. Temperatures will cool into the upper 20s as winds die down again.
A Freeze Warning has been issued for a widespread freeze in southern Nebraska Wednesday morning. That warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday for temperatures as low as 26° in some locations. If you haven’t yet – protect outdoor plumbing and bring in any sensitive plants.
And in case you missed it, a comet (named Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) has been visible each of the past couple nights in the western sky. With its path around the sun, it only comes around every 80,000 years or so!
It’ll be visible each night for the next few nights as well, but as we get closer to the full moon on October 17th, it’ll look dimmer in the sky. Just try to look west about 20-30 minutes past sunset.
By the end of the week, still possible that we see a few showers try to develop Friday night into Saturday, dependent on some forcing making it this far east. We’ll keep watching that as that’s our first even chance for some rain in quite a while.
