Chilly start to a cooler day; warmer to end this week
As the cold front blasted through the state yesterday, we saw some very strong winds and associated gusts out of the north. Several locations had gusts over 50 mph, but sustained winds around 35-40 mph were also quite something.
With what snow was seen in Nebraska, it did not amount to a lot as expected. Generally most saw less than an inch. A little bit more than an inch was recorded in extreme northwest Nebraska. Close to home, not much of anything.
What we have been feeling for some time now is the much colder air following the strong cold front. Temperatures dropped all day yesterday and overnight with clearing skies. We’ll see our coldest temperatures by early Wednesday morning with wind chills around a few degrees below zero. Below is the forecast for about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Lincoln will at no point feel all that warm on Wednesday. Wind chills will slowly improve to the 30s by this afternoon, as winds shift from the northwest to the west and southwest.
Overnight into Thursday, southwest winds will pick up and we’ll warm a lot more for the end of this week. 60s by the end of the work week, 70s for the weekend!
Rain chances do not appear to be meaningful for Sunday and Monday, but a stronger system appears possible for better chances at rain by the end of next week. For now, high fire danger will be a concern again especially Thursday and into early next week as we continue to battle strong winds and dry conditions.
