Chilly end to October before we start warming again
Snow did fall across most of Nebraska over the weekend… many seeing their first flakes of the season. Closer to Lincoln, about a dusting was seen on Sunday morning. But through western and north Nebraska, most of the snow fell on Saturday.
The higher totals came from those areas that saw snow on Saturday. Blue Springs saw about 5.5″ while several spots recorded 3-4″, too. Southeast Nebraska saw about a trace, if anything.
We’re also about a week away now from the end of Daylight Saving. With sunrise around 7:55 a.m. on Monday morning, an earlier sunrise and sunset will happen by this time next week. We will “fall back” an hour by setting the clocks back on Sunday, November 5th.
That cold air mass from this weekend is still being felt on Monday morning. Wind chills were in the single digits and teens across southeast Nebraska, and below freezing temperatures are expected for most of the morning. Eventually, we’ll warm back into the 40s by the afternoon.
However, Monday night into Tuesday, another cold front will come through. With it, there will be a reinforcement of colder air rather than any precipitation this time around. Wind will pick up quite a bit overnight, too.
Highs for Halloween will be cold, only in the upper 30s. We haven’t been that cold for Halloween since 2017! Last year, the high on Halloween for Lincoln was in the 70s. But the chills this year will not only be from your fear.
After that, we’ll continue to warm the rest of the week. We should see the 60s soon enough! We also should remain mostly dry through next weekend.
