City announces new plans for 14th & Old Cheney/Warlick area
City officials on Thursday announced new plans for the intersection of 14th and Old Cheney and nearby Warlick Blvd.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — City officials on Thursday announced new plans for the intersection of 14th and Old Cheney and nearby Warlick Blvd.
A previous $44 million proposal would have put an elevated roundabout in the area, but Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said the project wasn’t feasible economically.
Instead, the city is eyeing a simpler, cheaper design that would come in around $26 million.
Specific details weren’t announced Thursday, but LTU officials say the new design likely won’t include any roundabouts or elevation.
“I think at this time we’re going to be asking consultants to bring forward options that include a more simplified design,” said LTU senior engineer Danielle Vachal. “Those types of things would include a normal intersection with traffic signals.”
Gaylor Baird said even at a lower cost, the new design would provide similar benefits – namely increased traffic slow and improved safety features – as the previous one.
Officials say access to businesses will be maintained at all times during construction, which is slated to begin in 2024 and finish in late 2025.
