City invites public to open house on improvements to two Lincoln intersections

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department wants to hear the public’s opinion on planned improvements at two intersections.
The open house regarding the intersections of 48th and Calvert streets and 56th and Calvert streets will be held at the Holmes Golf Course Clubhouse on Feb. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
At 48th and Calvert, the city is planning on replacing the current traffic signal. At the other intersection, crews would work to remove the traffic signal and build a roundabout.
LTU said the project also includes replacing utilities and reconstructing curb ramps and sidewalks to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
The $3.63 million project is “needed” to improve safety and increase traffic flow, according to the city.
Construction is expected to begin as early as summer 2027, with the project’s anticipated completion set for fall 2028.
The city wants people to “make suggestions or express concerns” regarding the proposed project at the upcoming open house.
More information on the open house or the project can be found by visiting the city’s website.
