City of Lincoln arms itself with salt and snowplows ahead of expected snow
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department began salting the roads Tuesday to ensure that they are passable during incoming winter weather.
“Our crews will be out soon as road conditions start to change or we’re aware that they may start to change,” said Tim Byrne, the LTU maintenance operations and fleet services manager. “That’s when we will deploy our team members. They will stay out there until we are no longer needed.”

Those living in Lincoln are getting bundled up and stocked up while city crews are hustling to keep roads clear.
“I’m shopping for the sidewalk outside of my apartment because it does get pretty icy out there, so doing that will prepare me for the ice and to not slip in,” said Brody Keeling, a customer at Ace Hardware.
LTU said it’s tackling the snow with a combination of plows and road salt.
“Fortunately, it’s been a pretty light year for us this far below our seasonal average.” Byrne said. “So we are fully stocked on all of our winter snow-fighting materials, salt and brine. We are fully mission capable and ready to go.”

But Byrne said the salt can only do so much, so drivers need to stay vigilant on the roads.
He said the city is doing everything it can to keep everyone moving through the winter storm.
People can track the snowplows online to see if they have come through their neighborhoods.
