City of Lincoln issues snow emergency; LTU plowing residential roads
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The City of Lincoln issuing a snow emergency Monday as winter weather passed through Lincoln.
Starting at 1 p.m., parking was banned on both sides of emergency snow routes, arterial streets and school and bus routes.
Parking is also banned on odd-numbered side of residential streets, according to the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department.
LTU crews started plowing residential roads at 1 p.m.
Tim Byrne, LTU’s maintenance operations and fleet services manager, said crews will continue plowing and laying salt on the roads through the rest of the week.
“Over the next few days as we see some melting and refreezing, keep an eye out for slick spots that are out there,” he said. “Especially as you venture out in the morning for conditions that may have changed overnight when you were last out on the streets.”

Carolina Dubon, who is traveling through Nebraska from Utah, said this is not the easiest trip to make.
“A lot of blind spots, and the visibility is not the best,” she said. “With the wind, the snow is just blowing side-to-side. I’ve seen semitrucks having a hard time driving straight, so that sucks. Just have to slow down because it’s not fun right now.”
Another driver, Mark Jicha, said his route wasn’t too bad.
“I came in about an hour ago on Highway 2, and I took the bypass,” he said. “The slow lane was pretty good, but the passing lane is ice- packed. And then from Warhorse coming into West O here was kind of slick in both lanes. I thought it would be slicker than what it was.”
