LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The City of Lincoln declared a snow emergency Monday due to the winter storm.

Parking bans have also been issued, according to a press release.

City officials said parking is banned only on the even-numbered side of residential streets to assist snowplow crews.

Parking is banned on both sides of emergency snow routes, arterial streets, school routes and bus routes.

Maps of those routes and winter operations updates can be found on the city’s website.

Liz Elliott, director of the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department, said crews were working all day Monday and will continue to do so this week.

“With heavy snow expected to fall for the next several hours, the work is ongoing,” she said. “Snowplow teams will remain on the streets until the job is done.”

As of 4 p.m., the Lincoln Police Department reported 21 crashes.

Much of eastern Nebraska is under a winter storm warning through Tuesday morning.

Interstate 80 is closed in both directions from Grand Island to Lexington, according to Nebraska511.
