City of Lincoln proposes new temporary locations for 11th Street bus transfer center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – City officials are picking a new temporary location for the StarTran transfer center at 11th and N streets.
The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department initially planned on moving the transfer station to occupy parking spots near 11th and L streets.
But on Tuesday, the city announced that would no longer be the case.
Instead, the StarTran Advisory Board will vote Thursday on six new temporary locations near 11th and L streets.
Two possible spots are on 11th Street along the Carriage Park Parking Garage.
The other four proposed locations are along the former Settell’s Printing Building.
The decision comes after the city heard from bus riders, residents and businesses at two open houses last week.
“StarTran is committed to serving the Lincoln community by providing efficient and convenient transportation options for all residents,” said Liz Elliott, the department’s director, in a press release. “After evaluating the valuable input from our riders, residents, and local businesses, our team at LTU worked to find an optimal solution for the proposed transfer center relocation. We are pleased to announce a revised plan that addresses community feedback while maintaining the functionality of the transit system and fulfilling the federal requirements.”
The transfer center will stay at 11th and L streets for about three years while a new larger transportation hub is being built.
