City of Lincoln says it’s prepared for incoming snow Monday morning
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Transportation and Utilities says its crews are ready for more snow beginning early Monday morning through Tuesday.
Tim Byrne, LTU’s maintenance operations and fleet services manager, said they’ll be doing everything they can to get people where they need to go safely.
“With the potential for a significant winter storm, our snowfighters are on standby and ready to respond,” Byrne wrote. “Our winter operations team is committed to ensuring the safety of our community’s daily transportation needs.”

Officials recommend keeping your vehicles stocked with an emergency kit and avoid driving if possible.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue said it will be ready to respond to crashes and other emergencies.
Battalion Chief Matt Treasure said their rigs are prepped with tire chains to increase traction. But depending how much snow there is, response times could be slower.
“If it gets to a point where our units are having difficulty responding, we work with LTU and the snowplows,” Treasure said. “The snowplows can be summoned. We also have internal snowplows, pickup truck-mounted snowplows can be used to clear a path for our fire engines as well.”
LFR crews will also have de-icing chemicals ready to put down on pavement if necessary, and crews will be outfitted with boot chains to avoid slips.
Treasure said the priority is safety.
“From the strategic level as a battalion chief, we’re always making sure that our units arrive safely,” he said. “We might have to rotate additional units through an incident to take care of our people.”
Residents who are unable to shovel can use the Snow Angels Program for help. The program is made up of volunteers who assist neighbors in clearing their driveways and sidewalks.
