BREAKING NEWS: Snow emergency declared for Lincoln, surrounding cities

Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler declared a snow emergency for the City of Lincoln late Tuesday afternoon.

Beginning at 8 p.m., parking is banned on both sides of all emergency snow routes, bus and school routes and other major arterial streets to deliver the most efficient snow plowing operation.

For a map of these routes, visit snow.lincoln.ne.gov.

About 20 crews are now patrolling City streets spreading granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed.

Plowing operations are expected to begin about 9 p.m.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. (CT) Wednesday.

Heavy snowfall is expected, with total snow accumulations ranging from 6-8 inches in portions of southeast Nebraska.

Weather conditions could make travel difficult, and will likely impact Tuesday’s evening commute and Wednesday’s morning commute.

Requests for additional attention on specific streets or intersections may be easily submitted through UPLNK, the City’s phone app to report non-emergency issues. Download the free app at lincoln.ne.gov or in the iOS or Android stores. The requests will be handled based on priority and availability of resources.

If you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The latest road conditions across the state can be accessed by calling 511 or visiting the Nebraska 511 map website.
