City wants to hear from public on new skatepark coming to Lincoln Haymarket
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — City officials are hosting an open house Tuesday to hear from the public on the new skate park that is coming to the Haymarket.
The skate park will be part of the $15 million South Haymarket Park.
Phil Burcher, president of the Lincoln Skatepark Association, said he’s been working on this since the ’90s, and it’s finally becoming a reality.
“It’s going to put us on a level with other cities our size that have a really nice skate park,” he said. “We can do events and have pros come to town and things like that.”

Lincoln skateboarders said they are also excited to have a newer facility.
“Having it in a central location would be pretty good,” said Parker Crane, who typically skateboards at Tierra Briarhurst Park in south Lincoln.

The skate park is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.
Burcher said it will be more than just a skate park.
“We really want to be all-inclusive, whether it is roller skates, skateboards, scooters, even bicycles and wheelchairs,” Burcher said.
If you have ideas or questions about the project, designers and city officials will be at The Bay, near 21st and Y streets, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
