Civic Saturday partners with History Nebraska Museum to encourage civil engagement
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Civic Saturday held their quarterly meeting where they discussed democracy and the state of the nation.
The goal is to encourage people to get together to celebrate our nations creed and discuss topics that include ways to increase active civic engagement through artistic ways that include poetry, music and art.
This Civic Saturday was a little different because it included a partnership with the History Nebraska Museum that unveiled a new traveling exhibit named American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith from the Smithsonian.
Interim Museum Director Jill Dolberg said the exhibit showcases America’s evolution.
“It’s America as it has changed, and so we have a voting booth that looks like a suitcase that is probably from the 70’s. We have some fantastic 1970’s voter pants that you’ll just have to see because I can’t describe them,” said Dolberg. “We have some artifacts from the election of President Lincoln.”
There’s just some real treasures here and some things to make you think.
The next Civic Saturday will be held in April. If you’d like to check out the American Democracy exhibit, it runs through May 20th.
