LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue is sharing some timely reminders to keep homeowners safe this winter.

Lincoln was pelted with snow earlier this week, and more snow is expected to arrive Thursday.

Snow can pile up and block external vents, leading to carbon monoxide poisoning, according to LFR.

Before the next snow arrives, LFR said homeowners should clear their outdoor vents of furnaces, dryers, fireplaces and ovens.

People should also test their carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they’re working.

LFR said the detectors should be on each level of a home and within 10 feet of bedrooms.
