Clearing way for a warmer weekend

Showers off and on during the day on Friday led to a variety of totals throughout southeast Nebraska. By the time the rain had come to an end, close to a half inch was seen near York, Stromsburg and Columbus areas. Within Lincoln, just under two tenths was recorded at the airport.

Other than that, much of extreme southeast Nebraska (southern Lancaster, Beatrice, Nebraska City and Falls City areas) saw nothing for rainfall through Friday evening.

With the recent moisture, skies will be clearing overnight into Saturday morning. Temperatures will be falling to just about freezing to start Saturday. Under these conditions, much of eastern and south-central Nebraska is under a Frost Advisory starting Friday night into Saturday morning.

Even though Lincoln and areas east are not under this advisory, there’s a good chance frost could develop as temperatures drop into the middle and lower 30s. Protecting those sensitive plants is a good idea tonight!

Frost Advisory

Even beyond Saturday morning, a couple more mornings in the near future could be close to freezing once again. Looking toward Monday and Tuesday mornings, lows will be nearing the lower 30s. It’ll be something to keep an eye on in the coming days.

Jess Frost Territory

This weekend will be a pleasant one! Aside from the wind being strong at times, we’ll have a lot more sunshine on Saturday compared to the day on Friday. Highs will be just above normal and seasonable, warming into the lower 70s by the afternoon. There’s a small chance for a small shower or two, mainly to our north an east Saturday.

By Sunday, the winds will be very strong. We’re talking gusts closing in on 40 miles per hour out of the northwest, making even the highs in the lower 60s feel several degrees cooler.

Weekend

But with many farmers markets scheduled this weekend, it’ll be a weekend to enjoy!
