Clinic with a Heart hosts free clinic for students

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The end of Summer can be a stressful time for parents to get everything together that students need for school.

Saturday, healthcare professionals and nursing students banded together to make things a bit easier at Clinic with a Heart.  It offers free physicals to school-aged kids.

John Wesley and his son went to the Clinic with a Heart for his son’s annual physical.

“As a parent, I know that I have a duty to always look after my children and to take care of them,” Wesley said. “So, to have the opportunity to have my child go through examination and get immunization it is a wonderful thing to me, because I feel it is supporting my duties as a parent.”

The free clinic is open to students of all ages who need to get up to date on their vaccinations and screenings.

Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department, nursing students at Southeast Community College, and Clinic with a Heart all collaborated together to make this event happen.

“The best part of this clinic is that the volunteers who are here, the staff who are here and of course the patients who are here,” Tonya Maloy, Director of Clinic Operations said. “They are all thankful for this clinic. I always leave here feeling like my bucket is full because people are thankful to be helping each other and fulfilling a need in the community.”

Students who participated all walked away with new backpacks to help them start school in style.

“I think they’re excited when they get the backpacks,” Sierra Jorgenson, Southeast Community College Nursing Student said. “It has hygiene products in it and some sunglasses, a water bottle and we give them to the kids who have gotten their school physicals.”

If you missed Saturday’s event, you can still sign your child up for a free physical.

Clinic with a Heart is offering free student physicals again on August 7 and August 26.  You can get registered on their website.
