Clinic with a Heart offering free school and sports physicals for upcoming school year
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Making sure your kids are healthy and ready for the school year was the goal of the free school and sports physicals offered Saturday morning by Clinic with a Heart.
Teresa Harms, the Executive Director, discussed why it is essential to have an option for free physicals before the school year starts.
“Kids need physicals to be able to get into school. Most of the kids we see at these clinics are new to the city, don’t yet have providers, and haven’t established their Medicaid yet, so this is it for them. Also, if parents work an hourly job, it’s tough to make an appointment, if the appointments are six weeks out. So, this is on a Saturday too, which is helpful too,” said Harms.
The clinic offers many different screenings for students.
“We can do dental screenings, to do the medical screenings with a medical provider; we are doing an eye screening for students and students from other counties. So, some other counties require lab work, and we do that here too,” said Harms.
As the program has evolved throughout the years, it has brought in many volunteers to help out. Kris Geis, a volunteer for over six years, has found a passion for Clinic with a Heart.
“Anytime, every clinic, there is somebody that is just so grateful and so thankful that we are here for them, and that is what warms the heart about working and volunteering here. You see people that truly appreciate what you are doing,” said Geis.
The clinic has two different ways that you can get your child enrolled for the clinic. You can call Monday-Thursday after 2 p.m., or their phone number is (402)-421-2924, and they will help sign them up for a physical. If it is easier to access them online, here is the link to their website: Clinic With A Heart. You can select their school physicals tab and make your appointment online.
These are available for any child in Nebraska. They ask if you’re coming from a different county to bring the required forms for your area. Another free clinic will be on August 13th from 8 a.m. to noon.
