After a breezy afternoon, winds die down after sunset across the eastern half of the state. Temperatures drop into the 50s by 7 p.m. ahead of another chilly start to the day on Thursday.

Several cold weather alerts are in place across the state. Lincoln is under a Frost Advisory Thursday morning as temperatures will drop into the lower 30s. A Freeze Warning is also in place for northeast Nebraska where temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.

This morning, our low temperature snuck just below freezing, marking our first fall freeze of the season! We typically see our first freeze in the Capital City during the second week of October.

Temperatures will try to sneak below freezing across southeast Nebraska this evening with a northerly breeze.

Lows tonight will fall to the lower-to-middle 30s under mostly clear skies in Lincoln. Any outdoor plants that are sensitive to the cold may want to spend the evening inside.

High temperatures on Thursday will be a couple of degrees cooler than today with most of us seeing the middle 60s.

A few upper-level clouds will be possible, but we are looking at textbook fall weather for the Capital City on Thursday.

Stormcast keeps much of the state clear other than some upper-level cloud cover until early Friday morning.

We stay dry until Friday afternoon, with a brief pause in the showers for the Husker game on Saturday. Chances for showers return to the forecast on Sunday and continue into early next week. Our high temperatures will linger close to average in the lower to middle 60s until the middle of next week.
