Cloudy and cooler to end the work week; severe potential Sunday, Monday
It was a wild day of storms yesterday (April 24, 2025).
There were two reports of tornadoes, near Fairbury and Council Bluffs. A 3″ hailstone was measured in Ralston toward the Omaha metro. And there was a ton of rain leading to some flash floods around Omaha.
Even southwest Lincoln had a little over 1″ of rain in the gauge after Thursday’s storms. The airport had closer to three-quarters of an inch.
It’ll be foggy, cloudy and cooler this Friday as we dry out toward the weekend.
At times, a northerly breeze will keep temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than normal in the upper 50s.
It’ll be mostly dry heading into the weekend. There’s only a small chance of very light rain Saturday while we’re partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Storm chances return Sunday and Monday.
There is a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for almost all of Nebraska with a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk in central Nebraska. Severe weather will be possible by late Sunday afternoon and evening.
Monday continues to have a strong signal for what could be significant severe weather especially toward Omaha, those around the Missouri River and areas east. This was an event that was hinted at 7 days out which is rare.
This feels like a similar setup where storms try to start up in central Nebraska, move into easter Nebraska where some severe storms will start to ramp up, then storms really start to intensify once they get toward Iowa. Storms may really pack a punch though for any area in both yellow and orange below.
