Cold cheers to New Year’s
The final Friday of the year will feature a lot of sun and the warmest temperatures of the week since before the storm. Clouds have cleared Lincoln early this morning, leaving skies clear for lows to drop to the upper teens to mid 20s. And winds have been strong enough to keep fog from forming.
We’ll see clouds move in and out over the next few days, but a dry forecast expected to transition into 2024.
Sun will prevail for the majority of Friday and Saturday, giving us warmer temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Not all models suggest this, but some low clouds/fog may form as early as tonight, before leaving us by tomorrow afternoon. There’s a lower chance to see this and have it be impactful.
We could see fog form and spread across eastern Nebraska early Saturday, with low clouds through the morning that will clear later on.
Then, a cold front ends our warming trend heading into Sunday. Highs plummet on Sunday to the 20s under partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures will be cold heading into New Year’s Eve night, too. Wind chills will be just above zero for most at the stroke of midnight.
We are not expecting any weather “extremes” on New Year’s Day in Lincoln. We haven’t set any new records in a long time, and it looks like 2024 is no different.
Quiet weather will continue for us, making for a smooth transition into 2024.
