Cold front passes through Nebraska Tuesday bringing chance for storms

Temperatures returned to the upper 80°s and lower 90° – close to where it should be on July 5.  Lincoln made it to 90° for the 20th day this year.  That is three days above the 30-year normal year to date.

Dma Tomorrow High

We’ll add another 90° day Tuesday as a cold front moves closer to southeast Nebraska.  The front will pass Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

The front will trigger showers and thunderstorms in central Nebraska Tuesday afternoon.  Some of the storms in central Nebraska may be strong to severe, especially by early evening.  The main threat will be damaging wind and large hail.  At this time I’m not expecting widespread severe storms.

Temp 4 State 2 Day Severe Dark Gray

Decaying thunderstorms should reach southeast Nebraska later Tuesday evening.  What is left over of thunderstorms should be on the weaker side and could be more in the way of scattered showers by the time the line reaches Lincoln.  I’m bracketing the hours between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. for rain in Lincoln.

Cooler and drier air will arrive in the Channel 8 viewing area behind the cold front.  Dew points will drop to the upper 50°s Wednesday afternoon and high temperatures should reach the lower to middle 80°s. It should be a comfortable day.
