Monday cold front results in a temporary “cool-down”
Although it is mid-March, the air felt a lot more like early May on Sunday! The weather was perfect for any outdoor activities – full sunshine with highs in the upper-60s to near 70°.
Don’t get used to the sunny skies, because we do have some clouds lurking off to the west as of Sunday evening. These clouds will approach southeast Nebraska overnight Sunday and into Monday morning. While the clouds arrive in the Tri-Cities overnight, they’ll arrive closer to Monday morning in Lincoln. Lows should be near 34° in Lincoln.
Monday will feature a lot more cloud cover. The day should be mostly cloudy, although we do expect some evening clearing. Some guidance is suggesting a very small chance for a sprinkle. Dry air will be at work, preventing this scenario for many and leaving most dry.
High temperatures will be a bit tricky on Monday afternoon as a cold front will be sliding through the area. I’ve seen computer model guidance range anywhere from the 40s to low-60s for high temperatures in Lincoln, with each solution depending on the timing of the front.
That said, we’re forecasting low to mid-50s for a high in Lincoln, but give or take a few degrees due to the front. Either way, we will be cooler on Monday compared to Sunday.
Skies clear on Monday evening, leaving us mostly clear on Tuesday. As a result, temperatures rise back into the 60s on Tuesday.
Our next storm system approaches on Wednesday and arrives on Thursday. This could bring some scattered rain to the area on St. Patrick’s Day. It appears that the bulk of the energy supplying this system will be to our south, so the best chance for rain is in southern Nebraska. Rain chances decrease north of the I-80 corridor.
