17 kittens dumped at Nebraska animal cemetery
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Nebraska animal shelter is calling on the community to help care for kittens that were dumped at its cemetery.
The Central Nebraska Humane Society in Grand Island said a couple of people drove up in a minivan and left 17 kittens around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Staff doesn’t regularly check the cemetery, so the kittens weren’t found until 1 p.m. Sunday.
The humane society said a volunteer heard them crying from a bush. All of them were cold and hadn’t eaten anything recently, the shelter said.
Dumping animals exposes them to potential dangers, including predators and harsh weather, the humane society said.
The shelter is also already at maximum capacity for cats and dogs.
It’s asking responsible owners to spay and neuter their pets to help prevent unwanted litters that overcrowd shelters.
Anyone interested in fostering is urged to call 308-385-5305. You can also donate money and items to help care for the animals.
