LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Colorado man threatened a person with a rifle at a rest area in Nebraska on Sunday, authorities say.

Around 8:55 a.m., 28-year-old Jonah McKinley pointed the rifle at a man during an argument at the Interstate 80 rest area near Cozad.

Shortly after, McKinley tossed the rifle into a minivan and got into a Chevy Malibu.  Both vehicles were seen heading east on I-80.

Later on, troopers pulled over the Chevy southeast of Lexington and took McKinley into custody, according to the patrol.

Dawson County deputies stopped the minivan, driven by McKinley’s girlfriend, and found the rifle.

McKinley, who is banned from owning a firearm, was in violation of a protection order held by his girlfriend, the patrol said.

He was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including terroristic threats, use of a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a defaced firearm.
