Comfortable night ahead; Heat and humidity return
A fantastic late June day across southeast Nebraska. Low humidity – dew points have been in the 40°s – and the temperature has been below normal in the middle to upper 70°s. Monday will go in the weather records as “below normal”, making this the first day below normal in eight days.
We have a very comfortable evening and night coming. Skies will clear Monday evening, allowing temperatures to drop to the lower to middle 50°s by Wednesday morning. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few cooler locales drops to the upper 40°s.
It will be about ten degrees warmer Tuesday afternoon. Skies will turn partly cloudy by afternoon and winds will increase out of the south/southwest gusting to 25 mph. Highs will be in the upper 80°s to near 90°.
We will be watching for the potential of a few thunderstorms to develop late afternoon/evening in northeast Nebraska. The window for initiation of the line is between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The line is projected to move south, through eastern Nebraska. I am bracketing the hours between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. for the line to pass through Lincoln. The main threat for any storms that develop will be straight-line winds and small hail.
Humidity will slowly be on the increase Tuesday, but you will notice it more Wednesday and Thursday. Dew point temperatures should return in the middle/upper 60°s Wednesday. Then we turn “muggly” for Thursday with dew points in the lower 70°s. Combined with air temperatures in the middle to upper 90°s and the heat index will likely hit 100° Tuesday and 102° to 106° Wednesday.
