COVID numbers growing within the Lincoln Community Corrections Center. Positive after positive, the number of cases causing the facility to be put on lock down.

“It does not surprise me because it is overcrowded and that’s a concern for all facilities probably nation wide. It does surprise me that they aren’t doing the proper things they need to be doing for COVID ,” Mandie said.

Mandie is friends with an inmate at the facility and says everyone is worried about being under quarantine and catching the virus.

“He is very concerned that he might get it and if he does need to be hospitalized, that he wont properly be treated,” she said.

In a press release from the department of corrections, Director Scott Frakes said contact tracing is underway and depending on the outcome, parts of the facility may be able to resume normal operations fairly soon.

Mandie said they aren’t testing the inmates unless they show symptoms, causing more of a worry for what could happen if an inmate gets the virus and is asymptomatic.

“It’s going to continue to spread throughout the whole building,” she said.

Mandie pleading with those who will listen to protect not just her friend but everyone inside.

“People in here, no matter what the crime is they’ve done, they deserve to be treated just like we all are. They deserve to have the proper protection we are all taking. They don’t deserve to be treated any different than what we are,” Mandie siad.
