Continued melting as we warm this week
Most of the snow statewide fell Friday and Saturday. The heaviest snow fell in western Nebraska, with another good push of snow from the south affecting southeast Nebraska.
Some of the most impressive totals fell in the Sandhills, with a 10″ report coming near Mullen, Nebraska. Several other locations recorded snowfall over 7″ as snow fell for a longer duration and continued to pile up.
Closer to home, it was far southeast Nebraska that saw more snow this time. Many reports fell in the 2-4″ range, with the highest reports in Lincoln coming at 2″. As our first measurable snowfall this season, it was about a week later than our average first snowfall (November 17).
While Sunday saw a lot of melting, not everything is gone just yet. We will continue to melt on Monday with mostly sunny conditions. There’s also a slight chance a stray flurry comes from the north, but not everyone will see this.
We’ll warm up nicely through the middle of the upcoming week. Highs will be in the lower 50s by Wednesday. After that, a system will be developing to our south with some questions still as to where that system will track. Some models have the northern edge clipping far southeast Nebraska with a slight chance at a wintry mix.
Other than watching that potential, we’ll be cooling down the second half of the week again.
