Controlled burn to close trail at Lincoln’s Wilderness Park

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Parks and Recreation staff are conducting a controlled burn at Wilderness Park on Thursday.

The burning of cedar piles at the park near South 14th Street and Rokeby Road will close a part of the red trail until Saturday at 11 a.m.

People are asked to avoid the area during the project.

arks staff will monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns, according to city officials.

Aaron Druery, Lincoln Parks and Rec’s greenways district supervisor, said the burns help manage “large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat.”
