“Cooler” day of the week before warming right back up
Monday was warm enough to set new record high temperatures in many places. Lincoln warmed up to 84°, surpassing the old record of 78° set back in 2014.
Broken Bow is the only one on the list below that tied their old record for the date from 1967.
In fact, Lincoln at 84° yesterday was the warmest we’ve ever been this early in the year. The only other time we’ve been up to 84° this early in the year was March 11th back in 1972, so it’s been a while!
Temperatures today will be noticeably cooler than Monday by about 20-25 degrees. Northerly winds in the morning will be quite breezy before relaxing through the afternoon.
We’ll then be warm again for the rest of the week. But by this weekend after a strong spring system moves through, temperatures will plummet for a short time.
St. Patrick’s Day should be warmer, though.
STRONG SYSTEM BY END OF THIS WEEK (MARCH 14-15TH, 2025)
We’re still monitoring a rapidly deepening system by Friday and Saturday of this week. Strong winds, winter weather and rain/some thunderstorms will all be possible with this.
Winds on Friday will start out of the south, gusting some 30-40 mph and increasing fire weather concerns once more. Into Saturday, those winds will switch to the northwest and gust around 40-50 mph.
The highest potential for severe weather is still off to our east, but we can’t rule out a strong storm or two in far eastern Nebraska Friday afternoon.
Accumulating snow looks more likely for western Nebraska through north-central and northeast Nebraska Friday into Saturday morning. Yet even if it’s just a little snow, travel could easily become quite messy with the wind and reduced visibility.
The track is not set in stone at this point, so keep checking back in for more information as we get closer to the end of the week.
