Cooler than normal temperatures; Heat lurks in the distance

Cloudy skies will remain in place obscuring the sun from southeast Nebraska Tuesday.  The clouds will also do a good job of keeping temperatures down.  High temperatures will only be in the lower 80°s Tuesday afternoon.

A few scattered showers will be possible, especially along the Nebraska/Kansas state line through the day Tuesday.  A few showers will also be possible north of I-80 through noon.

A cold front will approach southeast Nebraska Tuesday night.  Ahead of the front, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible.  The window for Lincoln appears to be 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday.  Further west, strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible from central to southwest Nebraska.  The main threat will be large hail and damaging wind.

A stretch of below normal temperatures in the 80°s will stick through the weekend.  While temperatures will remain cooler than normal (90° – Lincoln), humidity will remain moderate to high.  Dew point temperatures will be in the middle 60°s to around 70° Tuesday and Wednesday.

Along with the cooler temperatures, several chances for rain is possible.  Tuesday evening – Wednesday night and Thursday – Sunday morning.

HEAT RETURNS

Long range computer models suggest big heat returning to Nebraska for next week.  Temperatures are projected to be in the 90°s to around 100° starting next Tuesday.  Some data suggests upper 90°s could be too conservative.  Stay tuned!
