Cooler Thursday, but cold with light snow into early Friday
As the cold front came through Thursday evening, some saw a weak thunderstorm develop with lightning near Beatrice/Tecumseh! Winds were strongest overnight and are expected to diminish by about 7 a.m. Thursday morning. Wind chills have been in the teens to start.
The rest of the day, winds remain out of the north around 5-15 mph.
That leaves us much cooler (by about 20 degrees!) for afternoon highs today. But the coldest day of the week comes Friday with highs only in the 30s.
So winter is going to come back and say hello for about a day or two, starting Thursday afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northern Nebraska starting then and lasting until 6 a.m. Friday for possible snow accumulations of 2-5″.
Light snow will first start up in north-central Nebraska Thursday afternoon. Snow will become more widespread across northern Nebraska by Thursday night, before diving southeast. Southeast Nebraska will see snow after midnight, wrapping up before the sun comes up.
For Lincoln, snow comes after midnight and should wrap up by the morning commute. The best chances are just past 2 a.m. through 5 a.m. early Friday, but it won’t amount to all that much.
Most of southern Nebraska will see less than an inch from this round. More snow will be seen for those in far north and northeast Nebraska, where the snow band settles in by Thursday night.
We are left even colder then by Friday. Wind chills Friday morning will still be in the teens for most. Through the “warmest” parts of the day we’ll only feel like the mid and upper 20s.
If you’re already starting to miss the 60s though, they come back by early next week! Even this weekend is sunny and warmer.
