Local law enforcement took their support for the Special Olympics to new heights Friday morning.

"I play tennis and soccer,” Olympian Haley Waggoner said.

She’s been an athlete in the Special Olympics for ten years, and it’s given her more than medals.

"I’ve been shy and playing in sports and meeting others has made me get out of my shell,” Waggoner said.

The Special Olympics has been making that kind of impact on Nebraskans for years.

For that very reason, Dunkin Donuts and local law enforcement did their part to keep it going.

No matter how high they needed to go.

"Definitely worth the climb,” Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said.

Bliemeister along with other Lincoln Police officers and deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office took to the rooftops of Dunkin’ Donuts across the city.

They spent time with athletes and asked customers for donations in exchange for a free cup of coffee.

They braved the heights, and the rain, because they’ve seen for themselves the impact of the Special Olympics.

"Many of us in LPD have had the chance to go out and participate and interact with the athletes,” Bliemeister said. “And when we see that we know it’s a great cause."

Cop on a Rooftop came to Lincoln last year, a cause Dunkin’ Donuts was glad to take on.

"It’s great to support the athletes, it’s always heartwarming and our team loves the event,” Kyle Mills, with Dunkin’ Donuts said.

Dunkin Donuts’ also donated $1,000 to the Nebraska Special Olympics.

Waggoner said every dollar will make a difference to athletes like her.

"It’s going to be a great cause and help other athletes in Nebraska,” she said.
